This wagon was converted from a long wheelbase _IA_ wagon in 1970 for briquette traffic. In 1972 the traffic was altered to Firebricks. The photos shown reflect the firebrick traffic. The firebrick traffic was to Yallourn for the maintenance of the large furnace and boiler systems used to produce electricity for the State grid.
The vehicle featured ten compartments; five per side, each with a door and with an open floor that could support pallets.
KB 1 was the sole vehicle in the class and was out of service by 1979.
[ As an aside, this is the first (and only!) wagon Rob O'Regan paid the VR for information out of the "Register". For ONE wagon, the pricely sum of $10 was required ]
