The VHNA class is the 1979 code for _QN_ ballast wagons. Most VHNA wagons disappeared with the introduction of VHMY ballast hoppers in the late 1980's.

About 1987, some of the remaining wagons in the class were relettered to indicate non-revenue service. The class letters were VZNA. Not many wagons were reclassed. Some were: 8, 12, 19, 71, 107.
